About ThumbGrab

Why this tool exists

Downloading a YouTube thumbnail should be a ten-second task, yet most thumbnail sites wrap it in popups and quietly hand you a gray 120-pixel placeholder when the full-HD file does not exist. ThumbGrab is the honest version: every real size at once, availability checked for real, clean filenames, and a page where nothing opens by itself and everything has a close button.

How it works

The video's title and author come from YouTube's public oEmbed endpoint, and the thumbnails from their stable public storage — which is why this tool is the most resilient in its niche: nothing here depends on expiring video links. Downloads pass through a tiny proxy that only serves YouTube image hosts, so files arrive named «Video title_1280x720.jpg» instead of a meaningless «maxresdefault.jpg».

Honest limitations

Full-HD 1280×720 thumbnails exist only for videos uploaded in HD; for everything else the largest real size is 640×480, and we say so on the card instead of faking it. Channel banners and avatars are out of scope — they are served differently and change often.
